Emma Rozanski & Gonzalo Escobar Mora present new work at Elastic Arts Chicago

Our Emma Rozanski and Gonzalo Escobar Mora have curated a group collaborative show with Liz Gomez and Elastic Arts Chicago for the North American premiere of 3-channel video ‘Walden [verb]’

Walden [verb] is a mixed-media show consisting of work made by members of the cast and crew of a 3-channel video installation called Walden [verb]. The 3-channel work will be the central piece of the show, and ten satellite pieces in different media will form a creative grouping to accompany. Each artwork will be connected to and inspired by the main work either by theme, underlying discussion, visual aesthetic, materials, or location/space.

Artists in show: Liz Gomez, Yoni Goldstein, Gonzalo Escobar Mora, Madigan Burke, Zach Barner, Hadley Austin, Ronen Goldstein, Guy Fixsen, Bobbie Meier, Steve Meier, and Daniele Wilmouth

When: July 12th - July 25th 2024

Where: Elastic Arts - 3429 W. Diversey #208, Chicago IL, 60647    -   https://elasticarts.org

About ‘Walden [verb]’, the 3-channel video installation: A twenty-two minute impressionistic adaptation of the book ‘Walden’, with playful abstractions relating to critiques of his life and work. We follow a young woman in the snowy woods as she undertakes various ritualistic procedures in nature and in symbolic spaces. The film links themes of environmentalism and human discord to weave fragments of dystopian narrative, the three channels linked by a single soundscape.

Notes:

-The exhibition will also be on display in a limited capacity during the evenings of the regular performance schedule of Elastic Arts - video sound will be restricted.

-Appointments for private viewings can also be requested

-Live music tickets available directly through Elastic Arts (booking recommended): https://elasticarts.org/events

Gonzalo Escobar Mora's new short film, 'Enthusiasts' premieres at Portland International Film festival

Shot during the Covid-19 lockdown in Chicago in 2020, with 3 flatmates being the only cast and crew - our Gonzalo Escobar Mora and Emma Rozanski among them - ‘Enthusiasts’ is an interesting examination of ‘making plans’ amidst uncertainty - reflected through the eyes of two artists who are coping with the added uncertainty of making art and sustaining themselves financially into the future, while living in an ultra-consumer-capitalist world. Can you ‘buy’ your way out of the ‘system’?

Gonzalo Escobar Mora to attend The Robert Flaherty Film Seminar 2019

Gonzalo Escobar Mora has been invited to attend The 65th 2019 Robert Flaherty Film Seminar, to be held JUNE 15 – 21 at the COLGATE UNIVERSITY, HAMILTON, NY

He will be representing Bistrik7 there, along with several curatorial and film projects that he is developing with his production company and in collaboration with Bistrik7.

http://flahertyseminar.org/

ABOUT THE FLAHERTY

The Flaherty is a nonprofit media arts institution recognized as a leader in its support of the documentary and other independent film and video.

Festival Statement: We are artists in action. We combat demagogues who oppose our notions of freedom and justice. In this era of uncertainty, we rebel against the lies and navigate what to accept or reject, what to learn or unlearn. We find solidarity in small local communities, and together we act creatively, speak out, and make works that challenge the status quo.

At the 65th Robert Flaherty Seminar we unite as an international community of artists—thinkers, makers, and activists—all in action. We discover and experience moments of beauty, truth, anarchy and conflict through film, as well as painting, performance, photography, text, and sound. We encounter the craftsmanship of those who are not afraid to battle deep, ethical questions, and whose actions split form and convention wide open. With careful attention to the process of making—the construction of sensuous textures and mythical imagery, the patterning of resistance and repetition, and the uses of performative interventions and idiosyncratic storytelling—we learn how to create powerful moments of aesthetic and political liberation.

While inhabiting the everyday practice of making, doing, living, suffering and protesting as artists today, we take inspiration from the poetics of the human condition, and step into a new terrain. In discourse, thought, and experience, we come together as a community in action to bear witness and shape our future.
